What is Single Sign-On & How Does it Work?

As we stated above, single sign-on allows organizations to permit a user to use one set of login credentials to access multiple locations. As it relates to the usage of an SSO integration, there must be a service provider, user, and identity provider. In our case, we act as the service provider through our facilities management software, Intra. In essence, the user will access an authorized Intra application, which generates an SSO request. From there, Intra will direct the user to the SSO URL, where the identity provider or partner parses the SSO request, authenticates the user, and the user is ultimately logged into the application.

For clients using our Intra software platform, the intended use of SSO services provided by SCLogic is to allow SSO access to the Client Services Portal (CSP). For clients that want application integration that has an SSO access piece, we have made it a point to ensure that each SSO offering prioritizes security and ease of use. Our SAML2 SSO functionality within our CSP is a federal identity standard that allows secure web domains to exchange user authentication and authorization data. SAML provides a FIM, or federal identification mark, for web applications and is commonly used at universities. Our CAS, or Central Authentication Service SSO functionality validates a user’s authenticity by checking a username or password against a secure database, such as Kerberos, LDAP, or Active Directory.
